No stranger to the world of winemaking and viticulture, Alister grew up on his family’s vineyards on the Bellarine Peninsula and was planting vines at the age of 10.With a science degree from Melbourne University, Alister went on to study Oenology at the University of Adelaide and graduated in 2001. Alister then started working at Shadowfax Wines as Assistant Winemaker, a position he held for three years before moving back home to run his family’s winery Kilgour Estate in Bellarine. In 2008, Alister returned to Shadowfax to manage the winery’s various vineyards and establish the Little Hampton property in the Macedon Ranges, whilst working as Assistant Winemaker. He took over as Chief Winemaker in 2017. Over the past five years, Alister has focused on expanding the vineyard at Little Hampton from 10 ha to 25 ha, planting an additional 50,000 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. In his two decades at Shadowfax, Alister has achieved outstanding success. His various judging roles include Melbourne Royal Wine Awards, Royal Queensland Wine Awards, Gippsland Wine Show, Heathcote Wine Show, and the Halliday Chardonnay & Cabernet Challenge.
