Episode Synopsis

In this week’s episode, journalist Bankole Thompson, an authority on the media and a prominent voice of conscience and courage, breaks down the media and establishment campaign against Rev. Solomon Kinloch, one of the leadingcandidates for mayor of Detroit. Kinloch, the senior pastor of Triumph Church, the largest church in Michigan with about 40,000 members and one of the biggest Black churches in the nation, has come under intense attack from the mediasince he announced his campaign to succeed outgoing mayor Mike Duggan. Even though Kinloch is one of nine candidates running in the Aug. 5 primary, he has received the most scrutiny from the press and the establishment. In this master class analysis and commentary, Thompson draws on his years of experience as a practicing journalist and a noted author to examine the media's tendency to manipulate narratives and influence thought patterns in the 2025 political campaign. He compares how the media treated Duggan during his campaign to how Kinloch is currently being targeted. Thompson, who has five books, including his latest, Fiery Conscience, which was featured by Forbes magazine, demonstrating his national influence, explains why theracial caste system still exists in the media and how it conflicts with independent Black political thought. Having a front-row seat to Detroit's issues for years, Thompson provides an unmatched analysis and commentary like no other, explaining why the power structure prefers anyone but Kinloch to become the next mayor of Detroit.
