Listen "Texas Senate approves congressional map that increases white majority districts"
Episode Synopsis
Voting along party lines, the Texas Senate on Friday approved a redistricting plan for the state's congressional seats that could be instrumental in delivering a Republican majority to the U.S. House of Representatives. It draws no new minority opportunity districts, where nonwhite voters can elect their candidate of choice, while increasing the number of white majority districts. As the only state to pick up more than one congressional seat in reapportionment that happens once every decade, Texas is playing an outsized role in determining the partisan makeup of the U.S. House in redistricting efforts taking place in statehouses across the country.
