Listen "King Richard"
Episode Synopsis
This week we review the 2021 American biographical sports drama film King Richard directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Zach Baylin.
The film stars Will Smith as Richard Williams, the father and coach of famed tennis players Venus and Serena Williams (both of whom served as executive producers on the film), with Aunjanue Ellis, Saniyya Sidney, Demi Singleton, Tony Goldwyn, and Jon Bernthal in supporting roles.
It earned six nominations at the 94th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won Best Actor for Will Smith.
Will Smith's slap of Chris Rock at the Academy Awards overshadowed his Best Actor win. The incident cast a negative light on the film and became one of the most contentious pop culture moments of the year.
We discuss this and more.
The Aussie is in his element here. He was a semi-professional tennis player back in the day and he gives us some insights into the tennis world.
He tells us about his tennis days and reels off stats left right and straight down the line.
If you love tennis. If you love an underdog story. If you love a story with themes of family, ambition and identity - then this one is for you.
