Listen "059: Apocalypse Now: Final Cut"
Episode Synopsis
"I love the smell of a podcast in the morning, it smells like victory"!
With those words ringing in your head, it's time to go back into the jungle.
The helicopter blades are whirring and Ride Of The Valkyries is queued up ready to play. All of this can only mean one film - Apocalypse Now. Or to be more specific, Apocalypse Now : Final Cut.
Film maker Sam Pope, a huge fan of the Francis Coppola's masterpiece, guides your At The Flicks team up the river, deep into a discussion of the film and its meaning.
On the journey we will discuss whether the resurrection of the French plantation sequence adds anything to the film, the performances of Robert Duvall and Marlon Brando, Francis Coppola's direction and the genius that is Walter Murch. At no time are the words "the horror, the horror" spoken.
Part way through the journey we will stop to take in the landscape of 1970's cinema which gave birth to Apocalypse Now.
If you think you know this film or are only just discovering it for the first time, then why not join us? There is always room on Mr Clean' s boat and we would love to hear your thoughts on what this movie, which famously brought its creator to the edge of madness, means to you.
Enjoy
