ABOUT TODAY’S GUESTS:
Ron Kihara:  Born 1944 in Shakopee, Minnesota, where his father worked for the Army Intelligence Language School during WWII. Family moved to Monterey, CA , 1945, after the war with the Defense Language School now headquartered at the Army Presidio of Monterey. Ron graduated from Monterey High School in 1962 and began college at UC Berkeley, interrupted by a stint in the Army, Stateside, during the Vietnam war. Returned to college at UCB, graduated and began a career in Student Services at Berkeley, and later San Francisco State and CA State University Hayward. It was at Hayward that he met his wife, Ann. Ron is now retired and living back in Monterey, in the home where he grew up. The move was driven in part by Ron's declining vision, a result of an inherited condition called "Retinitus Pigmentosa." Monterey, being a small town, is easy to navigate on foot or by bus, affording independence for the visually impaired.
Ann Kihara:  Born in 1950 in Los Angeles, California, where her father was in a PhD program of study in Psychology. Her family relocated to the town of Fullerton, where Ann grew up. After graduating from high school in 1968, Ann attended UC Santa Cruz for three years. After working for the U.S. Geological Survey and CA State University, Hayward, Ann went back to school and completed her BA. Later, she took advantage of an employee education program to obtain an MA in Counseling at CSUH. A few years later, she took an early retirement to become a licensed Marriage and Family Counselor. As that career was beginning, she moved with her husband into the family home in Monterey to continue practicing.
