Listen "Blue Lakes"
Episode Synopsis
Melvin (Blue) Lakes, was born in 1947 and lived in Sand Gap, Kentucky until he was 10 years old. His family then moved to the city of McKee and has owned the Lakes Funeral Home since. After retiring from the Health Department, he then ran for the office of Coroner and held that title for 21 years, and in all that time he worked in the funeral home as well.
Blue shares a few stories of childhood, with one of those being, how he got the nickname Blue. Another story he shared was about him and another letting the chickens out of the coop. It is a very funny story ending with a couple kids getting their tails tanned. He also shares a few stories of how things used to be in Jackson County. One of those stories is why the theatre in Sand Gap closed its doors.
Mr. Lakes has always been a pillar of the community and we are thankful to have had him as a guest. He has never failed to show love and kindness to everyone he meets.
We thank God for his mercy and Kindness!
