In this episode, we’re in orbit above TOI-700 d, a lush Earth-like exoplanet orbiting a red dwarf star just over 100 light-years from Earth. The planet is home to the Tylash, a spacefaring but technically less advanced society with no historical baggage with the UFR or the old corporate blocs.
The settlements on the planet surface are littered with a unique natural resource Weyl semimetals, a new class of quantum materials that have the physical appearance of metals but are poor conductors of electricity, and whose properties do not change when they are deformed. The commercial potential for which would be enormous as the exotic material has only previously been made in labs. However, extracting those materials would be devastating to the local communities.The Tylash have reached out as they have seismic data that predicted a once in a milena resonance cascade that threatens to destabilise a huge portion of their continent. It won’t destroy the planet—but it will cause widespread suffering,devastating local flora and fauna as well as making living conditions very difficult for the next decade.
A UFR Crisis delegation with a representative of CoreHelix Crisis Division has arrived to talk to the locals about their options and they have 20 minutes before they are due to make their recommendation to the UFR Senator responsible for the Emergency Measures Agency.
