Amy took part in our class of 2010/11 and won the Extra Mile category. She said the Young Reporter Scheme helped her to gain a direct experience of journalism and promote her local rowing club, by writing monthly articles on them.
​Nowadays Amy is completing her PhD at the University of Exeter in Medical Genetics, but says the scheme gave her a good grounding into how to write a report and  how to ask the right questions.
​Although she has taken a more science based route in her career, Amy said that she still uses a lot of the skills that she gained from taking part as a Young Reporter. She told us how writing was more of a hobby when she was at school, but the scheme helped her more than she realised.
