Listen "Alumni Series, Episode 6: Amy Dawes"
Episode Synopsis
Amy took part in our class of 2010/11 and won the Extra Mile category. She said the Young Reporter Scheme helped her to gain a direct experience of journalism and promote her local rowing club, by writing monthly articles on them.
Nowadays Amy is completing her PhD at the University of Exeter in Medical Genetics, but says the scheme gave her a good grounding into how to write a report and how to ask the right questions.
Although she has taken a more science based route in her career, Amy said that she still uses a lot of the skills that she gained from taking part as a Young Reporter. She told us how writing was more of a hobby when she was at school, but the scheme helped her more than she realised.
