Nikita Dhawan from Youth for Animals talks with Diana Valencia founder of the non-profit NGO Abriendo Jaulas Abriendo Mentes (Opening Cages Opening Minds) about their campaign to free and rehabilitate Ely, a female African elephant in Aragón Zoo, in Mexico City. Translator & campaign supporter Lila Nieto joins them.Diana Valencia is the founder of the non-profit NGO Abriendo Jaulas Abriendo Mentes (Opening Cages Opening Minds). This organization fights for the rights of animals who are captive in Mexico City's zoos. Diana also initiated the campaign for the liberation of the elephant Ely so that she can be relocated to a sanctuary. The law firm Va por sus Derechos (This Goes for Their Rights) has joined her in this fight. This group of lawyers work for the rights of animals in Mexico to be recognized and for animals to acquire legal personhood as non-human persons".Lila Nieto is passionate about activism in favor of animal rights and the climate emergency. She learned about the campaign for the liberation of Ely on Instagram and from there she got in touch with Diana & joined the cause.
