Episode Synopsis

In our third and final segment of our conversation with Christy, she mentions that one of the core teachings of this church was that the only way to get to heaven was to be a member of this organization.  According to Christy, the goal posts were always moving depending on who was leading at the time.  She recognized that she was answerring to people and not the bible.  Christy and her husband were in charge of the children’s ministry despite not being as experienced as some others.  She questioned that and began pushing back.  She states that this pushing back is what led to her being let go from her position in the full time ministry.  Christy describes how the relationships within those in leadership were conditional.  She states that the loyalty to the organization was greater than the loyalty to one another, for many in leadership.  Christy discusses what its like to be a married leader in the church.  She made a desicion to no longer allow the church leadership to interfere in her marraige.  Through our conversation with Christy we learn that the leadership experienced much of the same pressure and spiritual abuse that the followership experienced as well.  Christy talks about going through a process of grief, which included guilt, fear, and anger, upon leaving the organization and the subequent years that followed.  Support the showStay updated on Aldo's current and future projects by signing up for his NewsletterOther Podcasts by Aldo B.
