Mimi Ausland is the founder of Free the Ocean, a website that gives anyone anywhere the opportunity to have a daily impact on the issue of plastic pollution. The way it works is by simply going to FreetheOcean.com and answering the daily trivia question. Just by doing that you fund the removal of 1 piece of plastic from the ocean and coastlines. Free the Ocean works with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, and together they have helped remove over 8.5 million pieces of plastic! They now have 30k+ unique daily visitors and people playing from over 160 countries. Mimi actually started her first passion project at age 12 with a very similar model to Free the Ocean but her mission at the time was to feed animals so she started a website called FreeKibble.com that went viral and was featured on Ellen, Oprah and the Today Show. She then went on to college where she thought she wanted to pursue psychology but instead was confronted with the harsh reality of what our oceans are facing and decided to change paths and create Free the Ocean with the goal of not only cleaning up our oceans but really to work towards a hopeful future.
