Listen "SJTJ 300: John 19:12-16a (Who "handed over" whom?)"
Episode Synopsis
WEEK 43.4: 12 From that moment on, Pilate wanted to release Jesus. However, the Jewish leaders cried out, saying, “If you release this man, you aren’t a friend of the emperor! Anyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes the emperor!”13 When Pilate heard these words, he led Jesus out and seated him on the judge’s bench at the place called Stone Pavement (in Aramaic, Gabbatha). 14 It was about noon on the Preparation Day for the Passover. Pilate said to the Jewish leaders, “Here’s your king.”15 The Jewish leaders cried out, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”Pilate responded, “What? Do you want me to crucify your king?”“We have no king except the emperor,” the chief priests answered. 16 Then Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified.SJTJ s a year-long contemplative journey through the Gospel of John. We invite you into Scripture, reflection, and intentional practices to help you pause, listen, and respond to God’s love in transformative ways. Weekdays are 10-12-minute devotionals to help you abide in the presence of Jesus and the Word of God, learn by studying the Scriptures, and go with intention to love the world. Weekends we release a short prayer of examen reflecting on the previous week and/or a longer teaching podcast that more deeply explores the themes and implications of John. Occasionally we have an excursus episode, which is basically an extra episode addressing listener questions or certain topics that require extended exploration.DONATE TO THE WILD WAY.
