A former elite Track & Field athlete and Stanford record-holder, she trained for the SummerOlympics before turning her focus to the mental side of the game.Dr. Charles Malveaux earned her BA and MA in Psychology from Stanford University and her Medical Degree from Howard University. She completed her psychiatry residency at UCLA, where she was Chief Resident and received the prestigious SAMHSA Fellowship from the American Psychiatric Association (APA). With accolades including UCLA’s Outstanding Teaching Award, she has dedicated her career to bridging mental health, performance, and equity in sports.As a leading Sports Psychiatrist, the Sports Psychiatry Section Editor for Psychiatric Times, and a provider for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Mental Health Directory, she helps athletes at all levels manage performance pressures, career transitions, and unexpected setbacks. She consults for the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), a professional sports league, and multiple teams and organizations. She has spoken nationally and internationally on athlete identity, injury recovery, and the stigma of mental health in diverse communities.A champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), Dr. Charles Malveaux has led initiativesaddressing racial disparities in mental health and sports. She chaired a racial and social justicecommittee within an international sports psychiatry association and served on the Board of BlackPsychiatrists of America.
