Listen "Thorn Slinger Deconstruction"
Episode Synopsis
In this episode of 8-bit Monsters' Monster Deconstruction for D&D 5e we look at the Thorn Slinger from Tales of the Yawning Portal. This large plant is a printed CR 1/2 that can hide among the other plants and surprise it's victims, first, with a barrage of thorns. After which, any unsuspecting creatures that get too close to combat the plant will find that they're quickly grappled by the sticky fluids the blossoms produce. Come join along as we deconstruct this plant and look at it's battle mechanics to determine if the CR 1/2 is correct or not.

The idea of this podcast is to break monsters down into their bare components: DCR & OCR. These two values will allow us to see how strong they are and to see where D&D got the CR values from. I'm doing this because all too often, players skip right to level 3 to avoid the hell levels and possibly end up dead. Generally, each monster is a balancing act that isn't equal to the final value.
If you like what you hear and want to see this process in a visual medium. Then come stop by my YouTube channel (Andrew Fillhart) and watch the magic in action. There will be extras at YouTube not present here in the podcast.
