Episode Synopsis

As a South Asian, Muslim immigrant woman in the counseling profession, Dr. Khan shares her deeply personal journey of carving her path outside of traditional academia and stepping into the helping profession on her terms.Dr. Khan opens up about her struggles with authenticity, feeling like a “robot” in her early professional years, and the pivotal moment when therapy became a doorway to discovering her true self. She reflects on cultural and generational challenges that once made mental health care feel inaccessible—and how investing in therapy after earning her PhD radically shifted her life and leadership. This conversation is a beautiful intersection of cultural identity, personal growth, and professional evolution. Dr. Khan reminds us that sometimes others see our light before we do—and that healing is both a personal and collective act of liberation.Follow me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dramberkhan Challenges for the ListenersInvest in Your Own HealingIf you’ve never experienced therapy or haven’t prioritized it lately, consider taking one small step toward your own healing journey.
