Single or Married

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (NLT)

This Bible verse is commonly used to speak about trusting in the Lord, and it would come to my mind as I would seek God’s will
about certain matters. One particular matter I did ask about when I first became a follower of Jesus was if marriage was in store for me or not?

I was 20 years of age when I first asked God about marriage. Then I turned 30 years old and was still single. Then as I approached 40 and was still single . . . I was getting a little nervous. My hopes of getting married in my 20’s and having children were no more.

To be honest, I was quite disappointed. Hadn’t I prayed and sought God in this matter and brought it to Him many times? I wanted to
honor Him in my life and wanted His will more than anything, but did that mean serving Him while being single? I wrestled with the thought that that might be His will. I was struggling with all this when the Lord spoke to my heart these two things:

(1) While you are waiting, enjoy Me (God). (2) Don’t waste your time complaining, wondering and struggling with being single. Just
enjoy serving others and loving them as if it were Me (God) you were serving and loving.

After the Lord showed me these lessons, it seemed that I didn’t struggle with being single because, whether I was single or married,
God’s will for me was to serve and love Him first and foremost. A year later I met my future husband, Joel. We have been married for six
years now, and we love serving the Lord together!
