Erick du Toit brings this week's reflection fromKirkliston Parish Church, Scotland.PRACTISING THE WAY: II TRANSFORMDo not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."(Romans 12:2 NIV)We are constantly being influenced by our environment, the relationships we are in, and the stories we believe about ourselves and the world.You ARE being shaped and formed; whether you’re aware of it, or not. Whether it happens intentionally or Unintentionally. There’s no way around it. This is probably why Paul is so keen to encourage the kirk in Rome to transform more into Christ’s likeness rather than simply ‘conforming’ to the culture they are in. It seems that not a lot has changed. People are still inwardly focused, keen to accumulate and build their lives on efforts to be bigger and better – to dominate. Jesus calls to become aware of this pitfall. That our culture will try to lure as away from the true meaning of life: giving yourself away as a living sacrifice. But what does that even mean? And why is it vital in our approach to healthy rhythms and habits as we pursue God’s heart for an everlasting Kingdom here in this place?
