Listen "#00023 Manchan Magan on the magic and poetry of language (especially Irish)"
Episode Synopsis
Hello and welcome to episode 00023 of the Ten Thousand Heroes Podcast. Today's interview is with Manchan Magan Manchán Magan describes himself as a writer and documentary-maker. He has written books on his travels in Africa, India and South America and two novels. He has made dozens of documentaries on issues of world culture for TG4, RTÉ & Travel Channel. He lives in an oak wood, with bees and hens, in a grass-roofed house near Lough Lene, Co Westmeath. He is also a mystical woodland creature, and that should not be forgotten nor overlooked. It comes out quite early in the interview, in fact. I talked with Manchan about balancing the desires for mystical and freedom with the rigors of rationality and materialism. There is some Irish history and vocabulary thrown into, with poetry seeping out of the cracks. I had an exhilarating time and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Thanks again for listening to today's show. Stay tuned after the interview for the debrief with my co-host Nathan Ramos.
