Episode Synopsis
Dr. Adam Clark, Xavier University professor, former co-chair of Black Theology Group at the American Academy of Religion, author and podcast creator, sits down with Tim to discuss James Cone and black liberation theology. Dr. Clark gives his education and personal background and how he came to study theology under James Cone. Tim and Dr. Clark discuss what liberation theology is and its definition of freedom. Tim and Dr. Clark also discuss James Cone and Martin Luther King Jr. and what their contributions were to the formation of the black liberation movement. Tim and Dr. Clark discuss the difference in what the Biblical idea of redemptive violence is and how white Evangelism discredits it. Lastly, Tim and Dr. Clark discuss what white allies can do to bring about the change that needs to happen in order for justice and equity for POC to exist.
