Listen "Store Up Treasures in Heaven"
Episode Synopsis
This week we continue in our study through the gospel according to Matthew as we consider Matthew 6:19-24. Jesus teaches, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rest destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal" (Matthew 6:19-20). We should store up treasures in heaven because our treasure reveals our hearts. Secondly our treasure, and how we see treasures reflect our spiritual health and maturity. Finally, we should store up treasures in heaven because treasures on earth cannot rival our true Master. Followers of Jesus want to live joyful generous lives out of appreciation and reflection of God and his work in the gospel. The Apostle Paul writes, "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9). Generosity flows from a heart that is captured by the radical, self-giving love of God. Would God give us grace to be mastered by God and reflect his love, sacrifice, and generosity.
