Listen "He Took Our Illnesses and Bore Our Diseases"
Episode Synopsis
This morning we continue in our study through the gospel according to Matthew as we consider Matthew 8:1-17. In our text today, we explore three miracles. Jesus heals a leper, the servant of a Gentile Centurion, and a woman, Peter’s mother-in-law. These are three kinds of people that were viewed as less than and considered religious outsiders by the Jewish religious leaders. In the story we see that Jesus is capable and compassionate. He commends the faith of the Centurion. Jesus reinforces that it is by faith that we enter the kingdom of heaven. We see that Jesus comes near that we might be drawn near to God. Jesus was crushed for our sins. We are ultimately cured as our curse, brokenness, iniquities were cast upon Jesus on the cross. In light of who Jesus is and what he has done, we approach Jesus falling down before him and calling upon him for healing. We rejoice and rest in the promise that by faith we will recline at the table in the kingdom of heaven. Like Peter's mother-in-law, we rise to serve Jesus in all of life.
