In Residence With is a podcast series that delves into the creative processes of sound artists during their residencies at Sound Art Lab in Struer, Denmark. Each episode offers an intimate glimpse into the artists' explorations, experiments, and reflections as they develop new work.

In this episode, we meet composer and instrument builder Laurits Jongejan, just as he completes Sun Chariot—a striking 2x2 meter electromechanical instrument assembled from more than 2,000 parts. Drawing inspiration from the Danish Bronze Age and the cryo chambers of quantum computers, Sun Chariot blends aluminum gongs, speaker plates, and mechanical mallets into a sculptural sound machine.
Laurits explores his newly born instrument as its metallic resonance marks the beginning of its sonic life. Not built for the stage, but for immersive exploration, Sun Chariot invites us to rethink what an instrument can be.
