Listen "Dan Clouser - Homa Shafii, Part 1 - From humble beginnings in Iran to the US Women's National Baseball Team"
Episode Synopsis
Another two part episode of The Journey of my Mother's Son podcast. I was able to talk to Homa Shafii. Homa came to the United States from Iran when she was only 11 years old. Once in the US, she fell in love with the games of baseball and softball. A late starter, only beginning to play softball at age 14, she was able to persevere and work hard to play high school softball. Not heavily recruited out of high school, she continued to overcome obstacles in her journey. Going to junior college, getting cut, transferring, and being told that she wasn't good enough. Against all odds, she continued to work hard and fight for the opportunity to play the game that she had grown to love. While playing softball, she also began to play baseball and loved it equally. She played in a men's amateur league in California, which she eventually went on to be the commissioner of and was part of the US Women's National Baseball team development program in 2017. She is currently training and pursuing her dream of making the US Women's National Baseball team and compete in the Women's World Cup, which has been postponed to 2021. Homa's story is one of faith, perseverance and never giving up on your dreams.
