The story of African American Christianity begins in black African Europe, not in America. Dr. David Daniels, professor of church history at McCormick Theology Seminary, tells the story of how African American Christianity emerged out of a context of African Christians engaged, leading Europeans Luther and others.

In this episode, Dr. Daniels answers this key question: Did Africans from West Africa need slavery to be introduced to Christianity? The answer is "no." According to what Dr. Daniels said on a recent lecture at The King's College, "They could have learned from Cape Verde. They could have learned from Kathu. They could have learned if they traded at all with anybody from Warri, Benin, or Alada, which is part of Nigeria.”
