But the larger issue, he says, is this act illustrates the need to reassess putting the vast powers of the presidency in the hands of one person. He reminds that our nation’s founders discussed creating an executive committee rather than a single chief executive, which could better reflect the diversification and interests of citizens and act as an additional check on power. With the vast changes since our nation’s founding, including in communication, technology and weapons, he suggests we revisit that idea.
