Fairs are a deep cultural tradition of our rural Bengal. Hearing the name of fairs brings joy to people's hearts. Fairs mean a meeting place of colors, lights, crowds and joy. Fairs have been considered a
meeting place for people for ages. Fairs are organized on special occasions or to keep memories alive. Fairs are not just entertainment, they are a big part of the economy. Last week I went to a fair which is known as Bhasani's fair.A fair is
organized every year in memory of Maulana Mohammad Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani on the occasion of his death anniversary. People from far and wide come to participate in the fair.
There were nagardola, boats, trains, sleepers and various rides for children. The main attraction of the fair is the food stalls. Here there were muri-murki, akhadi, kadma, jilapi, pickles, sherbat, fuchka and various other foods. There was a favorite cosmetic shop for girls where there were bangles, garlands, hair bands, lipsticks, earrings, etc. Also bamboo utensils.Overall, the fair is a unique attraction. The role of fairs in preserving the traditions of rural Bengalis is immense. Through fairs, we can remember our ancient tradition.
