In this week’s episode, we meet Mike Chen, acclaimed science fiction author of “Here And Now And Then” and “Vampire Weekend.” Although Mike has a degree in aerospace engineering, we soon discover that writing has always held a special place in his heart. We discuss his two shelved books, set aside mostly because of plotting issues, and the importance of great critique partners, with whom he refined his outlining skills. He also developed a method for writing that cuts his need for editing: he perfects the first act before moving on to the rest of the book (we will be trying that too!) Oh, and he may reveal how he and his partner, Sierra Godfrey, were the web developers for Jessica Sinsheimer’s famous manuscript wishlist website. That’s right, querying royalty is in the house!
