Listen "The Signs of Greatness - Armed with Bows"
Episode Synopsis
David's men became mighty men by reason of the anointing. This mantle came upon them when they served David. They became skilled in physical and spiritual warfare. They were also skilled in the word of God. These are few of the attributes of being armed with bows.
"1 And these are the ones who came to David to Ziklag, while he was still hiding from Saul the son of Kish, and they were among the mighty men who aided the war. 2 Armed with bows, shooting with the right and left hands, with stones and with arrows in the bow, of Saul's brethren of Benjamin.” (1 Chronicles 12:1-2 chabad.org)
They were armed with bows and arrows for shooting in front of them and behind them. They were even skilled in shooting stones on their bowstrings. This anointing came from David who used a stone to kill Goliath in battle.
"49 And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone, and slung it, and struck the Philistine on his forehead; the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground." (1 Samuel 17:49 RSV)
The bow also represents spiritual warfare as we see David playing the harp for Saul's deliverance.
"23 And whenever the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, David took the lyre and played it with his hand; so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him." (1 Samuel 16:23 RSV)
