What do you think made Nebuchadnezzar build a gold statue 90 feet high and 9 feet wide (see Daniel 2:31-45 esp. v. 38)? How did he interpret and apply Daniel’s interpretation of his dream? What does this tell us about how we should interpret and apply the truths of the Bible?3. What was the command given to all people of every nation and language regarding the statue (v. 4-7)? What are some “statues” or idols that people worship these days in our society?4. An idol is anything or anyone that takes the place of God in our hearts. It doesn’t have to be made of stone, wood, or gold. It doesn’t even have to be tangible. It only needs to be the number 1 priority in our lives. Is there something or someone that is dethroning God as your Master? Share with your group if you are comfortable.5. Verse 8 says, “Some Chaldeans took this occasion to come forward and maliciously accuse the Jews…” specifically Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Why do you think they were targeted (v. 8-12)? Have you experienced persecution or oppression because you stood up for Christ and refused to bow to idols?6. Despite Nebuchadnezzar’s rage and authority, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego fearlessly refused to obey the orders of their king. What do you think made them so brave (v. 16-18)?” Why do you think were they willing to die for their faith (v. 18)?7. In view of verse 18, comment and discuss with your group on the following statement by Bryan Chapell.Sometimes we get the wrong idea that God will do as we desire if our desire is spiritually good enough… (that) God will fulfill our desires because of the quality of our belief… Faith does not require God to do what we would love to happen, even for the right reasons. We must never mistake our will and desire for God’s will and desire.—Bryan Chapell8. When have you or somebody you know believed without a doubt that God would do something miraculous but he didn’t come through? Why do you think God “failed” to act?9. In a nutshell, when we pray, trust in God and his response, not on our spirituality and our requests. Share with your group a struggle you are going through. Then pray for one another, trusting God no matter what his desired outcome for us will be.
