Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!This is an episode I have wanted to do for a while now. If you regularly follow video game news and reviews on the internet, you have undoubtedly been affected to a certain extent by review culture. It is a bit of a sore spot in our beloved past time and often ends up destabilizing the various communities of video game lovers online. Sites like Metacritic and Open Critic are great for providing aggregated data on the critical reception of games, but the power some of these review outlets wield (or feel like they wield) is sometimes used as a weapon. Combined with the parasocial nature of some of these outlets, this can lead to a pretty dire setting. What ever happened to the days of just playing games and having fun?
