In the world of video games, what makes an RPG an RPG? This has been burning in my mind even brighter lately thanks to the release of Baldur's Gate 3. It has bridged a gap between the world of video games and pen and paper games like never before. However, games like Final Fantasy and The Witcher 3 are also RPGs? But they are all so different from one another! I determine the key ingredients of this wide ranging genre and clear off some games often thought of as RPGs, but in reality they are not. It may be a hot take to some, but to many others this is a dose of reality.
