Listen "Setting the Stage for Step 2: Seeing Through the Lens of Faith"
Episode Synopsis
Step 2: Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
Believing in God is not a requirement to get sober. Believing in something greater than yourself is. What does that mean? The dilemma that some of us face when it comes to faith should not keep us from saving our lives.
This morning, I heard, “you need faith in order to see, rather than seeing before you have faith.” By taking away the alcohol and cleaning out what I call my ‘dark place’, I grew less embarrassed about my desire to have faith. One simply needs to understand that she plays a role in the world, and she is not the director. The more I stopped trying to control things beyond my fingertips, the more I noticed I have no control over. And as I result, I began falling back into the arms of something greater than myself.
Just simply reaching out for help demonstrates one's belief in something greater than oneself. When I understand that I can't do it alone, that is believing in something greater than me. Vella boxed chardonnay used to be my higher power. Once I stopped putting alcohol in me, I had space within me for faith.
