Listen "Resonant Peace: The Sound That Stayed With Me"
Episode Synopsis
I’ve seen a lot of therapists in my lifetime. One of them had a gigantic wind chime outside her office that rang with a deep, resonant tone that I’ll never forget. Back then, I carried the weight of my thoughts and emotions in silence and poured alcohol over it. I felt disconnected, using alcohol to numb the noise in my mind. Anytime a therapist asked how much I drank, I’d lie and never go back.Eventually I reached a breaking point where I couldn’t live with alcohol, and I didn’t know how to live without it. I was forced to change. Letting go of the alcohol felt like exposing a raw, open wound I had spent years covering up. I shared my emotional experiences with other alcoholics, and they nodded. They got it. And as if that wasn’t enough, I heard others speak thoughts I believed were only mine.Connection with others is the key to my healing. It brings a deep and resonate peace that stays with me like the memory of that wind chime.Listen and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts and YouTube.
