Listen "Resolving Our Fears: Open The Door To Help"
Episode Synopsis
Breaking apart my young family was the hardest thing I ever did. Until walking into a sobriety meeting was the hardest thing. Until walking into detox was the hardest thing. Until walking away from my career for stroke recovery was the hardest thing.
Sometimes the act of walking through a door requires more courage than we think we have. Until the next heavy door awaits us. The harder the stuff I encounter, the faster I need to rip the towel off and dive right in—terrible imagery when it’s 16 degrees outside. Brrrrr!
In early sobriety, walking through the door to a meeting was the only thing I could muster the courage to do. I just sat and listened, slowly letting go of the belief that I had to figure it out on my own. I heard others addressing the fears, regrets, and emotions that I was drinking to avoid.
Sobriety taught me that I can’t and don’t want to do this life-thing alone. Today I can see that my fellowship holds the door open for me.
