Listen "From Kegs to Clarity: Reminiscing and Reimagining St. Patrick’s Day"
Episode Synopsis
St. Patrick’s Day was another excuse for complete escapism where I could ignore all responsibilities and numb out. Drinking from the crack of dawn, I woke up the next day with little recollection of what I’d said or done. I remember shoulder-to-shoulder crowds at DC101’s kegs and eggs and the way each year outdid the last in sheer nonsense. It was a blast, freeing even. But for me, the ride had to stop. Looking back, I don’t regret those times, and yet it is important that I have a healthy detachment from those memories.Today, St. Patrick’s Day looks nothing like it did before. I won’t wake up with a hangover tomorrow, piecing together what happened the day before. I don’t feel the need to disappear into the day. Drinking didn’t make the holidays better; it blurred the timeline around them. As a matter of fact, I had no idea who St. Patrick even was. So today I celebrated the day with a little education about the ol’ patron saint of Ireland.OH, and I cooked a Persian GREEN bean and rice dish. That is something worth celebrating!Listen and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts and YouTube.
