Listen "Family Dynamics Throughout Lifetime Recovery"
Episode Synopsis
In today's episode of Recovery Daily Podcast, I discuss the role of family members in both sobriety and stroke recovery. I explore how families seeking help for themselves can be incredibly beneficial to the patient, the importance and difficulties of practicing tolerance and love, and how these principles from my sobriety journey translate into my experience with stroke recovery.
I share personal stories, including how my family’s support created a conducive environment for my sobriety, and how I’ve seen similar benefits when family members seek knowledge and support to be a caregiver for a stroke survivor. I discuss how Al-Anon helps family members cope with their feelings, providing tools to manage their interactions with the alcoholic healthily. Similar support is available for stroke family caregivers.
Invisible illnesses effect the whole family. Tolerance and love are essential as everyone adapts as a family unit.
