Listen "#13 Borderline Personality Treatment - 1"
Episode Synopsis
Borderlines like being in the 'driver's seat'. Sometimes they will take information you shared with them - and turn it against you. A main issue with BPD is severe underlying abandonment. This makes it very difficult for them to develop trusting relationships. It is almost like they have a 'developmental lag' in being able to relate. This why it is important for the therapist to be consistent, but at the same time remain neutral and non-judgmental. Using the approach of DBT, it is often helpful to work with other therapists simultaneously in addressing BPD issues. In this way we can dilute the intensity for one therapist to deal with the constant demands of such clients. This week's video is: Turning the Tables on the Borderline client.
