Listen "Psalm 89 - The LORD’S Covenant with David, and Israel’s Afflictions"
Episode Synopsis
Psalm, Chapter 89The Lord’s Covenant with David, and Israel’s Afflictions.A [a]Maskil of [b]Ethan [c]the Ezrahite.89 I will sing of the lovingkindness of the Lord forever; To all generations I will make known Your faithfulness with my mouth.- The title of this message is the Lord's covenant with David, and Israel's afflictionso these things seem to be polar oppositeso first we have a covenant with David§ a covenant agreement is an agreement where only one party has to perform (in this case God performs everything necessary and David benefits) o then we have Israel’s afflictions§ Israel was afflicted because of their sin o So what is the difference between David and Israel?§ we know that David had sinned before with Bathsheba and Uriah§ the difference is that David repented of his sins and ask God for forgiveness§ he then believed God and his word and so God entered into a covenant agreement with him§ the same remains true today to everyone who asked God to forgive them for their sins and puts their faith in His word and believes God- A maskil of Ethan the Ezrahiteo a maskil it's a biblical principle learn by someone old enough to know that God's word is trueo Ethan means "strong," "safe," "solid," and "firm." Or “perpetuity, Perennial”- Ezrahite means (Born of the native; Son of the dawn; one born in the land with full citizenship rights)o Stitching these words together we get:o The Lord made a covenant with David even though he sinned according to Jewish wisdom from the old testament tried and proven to be true, strong, safe in perpetuity because of the son of dawn (it’s the gospel message) 2 For I have said, “Lovingkindness will be built up forever; In the heavens You will establish Your faithfulness.”- Notice all of this is because of God’s word- God declared “lovingkindness will be built up forever” (God’s plan not man’s)- In the heavens these things were established by Him who is faithful to do it!3 “I have made a covenant with My chosen; I have sworn to David My servant, 4 I will establish your seed forever And build up your throne to all generations.” [d]Selah.- Here is the promiseo I will establish your seed forever (the seed of chosen lives forever)o And build your throne to all generations (that means forever)o This is a prophecy concerning Jesus Christ and all His followersIntro to Outbless Weekly Thanks for listening to Outbless.com
