Listen "Dumb Arguments and Deep Truths"
Episode Synopsis
It almost seems like it is built right into our very nature to disagree, to argue, to focus on the tiny things that we disagree on, but don’t actually matter. In many cases, these things can be light and humorous, but there are other things that take on a different nature entirely. There are arguments that are very serious, but are just as trivial. Have you ever had one of these? An entire night is ruined because you couldn’t agree where to eat. A marriage is soured because you couldn’t agree who should take out the trash.
When we get focused on things like this, it takes our focus off of what really does matter...the kinds of things we actually should be standing for...the kinds of things where we actually should draw a line...the kinds of things that are fundamental truths. A great tactic of the enemy is to distract us so that we cannot be focused and effective.
The other issue is that when we constantly argue about trivial things, it doesn’t mean as much when we argue for the things that matter.
