Daryl Liggins felt the time was right to retire from the Oakland, CA Fire Department. His 23 years with Oakland, 30 in the fire service all together, deciding to step away from his daily routine and take on retirement kind of just felt right. It was time. His impressive career and contributions to his own department as well as the fire service in general is one that is worthy of hearing about. Over his tenure, riding in the busiest companies, retiring as the Captain of Training and speaking nationally, Daryl came to understand that the process is all worth it. Hard is slow and easy is fast. This resonates with his approach in most things. He is an all in guy who admittedly loves diving down rabbit holes to learn everything he can about a topic. So when his passion for the engine company became evident, he went all in, learning what he could from everywhere he could find. His contributions to hose and nozzle pairings, his in depth review of moving water and commitment to innovating for the better helped create a legacy that he leaves behind. Daryl's contributions are felt throughout the Oakland, CA Fire Department and the entire fire service is better for it. While settling into retirement, his daily fire service dealings are slowing, but he continues to make an impact teaching and sharing his insights and experiences with those who want more.
