Hello everyone! This is a special episode today. On Monday August 25th, 2025 a gunman fired 119 rounds into Annunciation Catholic Church in southwest Minneapolis during mass services. Two children were unfortunately killed in this incident. Fletcher Alexander Merkel (8 year old second grader) and Harper Lillian Moyski (10 year old fourth grader). As of current reports 21 people have injured in total. (18 children and 3 adults). There were 300-400 students and staff in the building at the time.At ~8:15 am mass began. ~8:27 am the shooter begins firing into the church. By ~8:31 am the shooting had ceased. The shooter drove a van to the site, got out, and began barricading the entrance. At that point he fired 116 rounds with his AR-15 into the church and then switched to the shotgun where he fired 3 rounds. After that he moved to the back side in the parking lot and received a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head.Police arrived on scene at 8:31 which is what probably caused the shooter to cease his attack and move to the back side of the church to do his final deed. ~8:35 am first responders had arrived on scene and began providing aid and transporting victims.This individual was a very sick person. The identified as a woman, despite being born as a man. They were mentally ill and their political leanings were almost impossible to pin down. I don’t think we should be wasting time on that issue, but people are trying to pin him down as democrat or republican with no avail. The shooter wrote a manifesto, and unlike the other events of this type, we actually were able to get ahold of it before the FBI seized it. On their guns they had written things like “kill Trump”, “where is your God now?”, “free Palestine”, “6 million wasn’t enough”, “for the children HA HA HA HA HA”. In videos the shooter posted to YouTube (now removed) he shows off his guns, laughs manically, and shows the viewer a target with a picture of Jesus’ head taped to the head of the target. The writings in the manifesto and on the guns were written in Cyrillic, a Russian format of writing, in Russian and English, also sometimes in English format of writing.There is a further discussion to be had about mental illness, trans ideology, and gun control. Had teachers and staff at the church been able to carry firearms would that have had prevented the shooting? I think it would have. The shooter mentioned that they had fear of backlash (from who is not specified) if they were to detransition. Whether this was a motive for the shooting is unclear. I believe that trans identifying and mental illness go hand in hand. Obviously this person was very mentally ill.
