It now goes to the Governor for his signature. Ask the Governor to reject this dangerous and unworkable bill that upends the checks and balances that allow the judicial branch to remedy politically drafted language that is improperly biased and misleading under Missouri law. This bill authorizes:The Secretary of State to rewrite biased ballot summary language up to three additional times, even after courts rule them unlawful and misleading. Currently, the court can remedy any illegal language. The state currently has a right to appeal a decision it believes is not based on the law. Creates an unworkable timeframe that allows partisan politicians to keep ballot summary language tied up in court, blocking petitioners getting out in the streets gathering signatures. Partisan politicians to collude on ballot language to get their preferred outcome on citizen-initiated and legislatively-referred ballot measures.Expanding the attorney general’s ability to block citizen-led measures before they reach voters.Allows the Attorney General to re-open injunctions issued by a court before this legislation would go into effect against our constitution's promise against retrospective laws. Contains an emergency clause allowing it to go into effect immediately upon the Governor's signature.
