The San Francisco Giants are playing their best baseball of the season, winning 10 of their last 11 games and hitting home runs in 17 straight contests — the longest streak in the San Francisco era. They’re finally showing some fight, taking care of business against the Rockies and proving they won’t back down when the pressure is on.  Matt Chapman is stepping up as a true leader, crushing two homers in this series and setting the tone for the lineup. Patrick Bailey is heating up at the plate again with clutch, timely hitting, while Drew Gilbert and Robbie Ray made their presence felt as well. Even Bob Melvin showed fire, getting tossed while standing up for his pitcher. This is the kind of energy the Giants have needed all season.  But where does that leave them in the playoff race? That’s where the math gets tricky. Despite their hot streak, the Giants still sit behind the Mets and Padres — two teams they don’t hold tiebreakers against. The Mets’ schedule is tough, while the Padres have the easiest remaining slate in baseball, making San Francisco’s margin for error razor thin. The Giants themselves do have one of the softer schedules left, but it may take a near-perfect run to sneak in.  Finally, we spotlight JT Brubaker, a veteran arm who recently joined the team and has the look of a classic Giants reclamation project.
