Listen "Exploring Isla Mujeres (and Cancun)"
Episode Synopsis
Michelle and I took a quick trip to Cancun and the neighboring Isla Mujeres. We were told on social media that the seaweed/sargassum that's plagued the beaches wasn't a problem this summer. So we checked it out for ourselves. Spoiler alert: It's still a big problem! We spent most of our time at a resort called the Valentin Imperial in the Riviera Maya. One day we took the short ferry ride to Isla Mujeres, a tiny island just off the coast from Cancun. We wanted to stay at Zoetry, but it was sold out. Zoetry is a quaint, 35 room resort with a small but fabulous seaweed-free beach. We'll definitely be going back there! Instead we stayed a night at the Mia. Isla Mujeres is generally free of seaweed. In our latest podcast we explore the Isla Mujeres and Cancun's Valentin resort with its amazing grounds, pools, restaurants and wildlife. The coatis (think a cross between a raccoon and monkey) are everywhere. So are the iguana. We spend much of our time searching the Kevin, a legend at the Valentin.
