Mother Hulda is a fairy tale about a kind, hardworking girl who falls into a well while trying to retrieve her spindle. She wakes in a magical land and begins working for Mother Hulda, a wise old woman. The girl is diligent and caring, shaking out Hulda’s feather bed so snow falls on Earth. When she wishes to return home, Mother Hulda rewards her with a shower of gold.Later, the girl’s lazy stepsister tries to copy her, hoping for the same reward. But she is selfish and careless, doing her tasks poorly. When she leaves, Mother Hulda sends her home covered in pitch instead of gold.
