Listen "Orpheus Winds: It's Not over till You Play Poulenc"
Episode Synopsis
It took over a year for the schedules of six busy BYU School of Music professors to align in such a way that they could come to our studio and play but it finally happened! And not only did they (Orpheus Winds) play one Highway 89 episode but two—victory!

Orpheus Winds is the Faculty Woodwind Quintet of BYU. The ensemble regularly performs for their students and peers in BYU’s Madsen Recital Hall. And they’ve performed works old and new on their national and international tours of Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Brazil.
In this episode pianist Scott Holden joins the quintet for Francis Poulenc’s “Sextour” before performing a transcription of “Liebestod” from Richard Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde. The piano transcription was written by Wagner’s father-in-law Franz Liszt.
The precursor to this performance was a concert by Orpheus Winds and Scott Holden in the Madsen Recital Hall celebrating BYU School of Music’s new Fazioli grand piano. You can see and hear the piano, played by Scott Holden, on GoPro Camera’s “Video of the Day” archive.
