Dennis Martey
Dennis Martey is the Managing Associate of TaylorCrabbe (https://taylorcrabbegh.com) with experience providing legal advisory services for the Government of Ghana, Civil Society Organizations, and international development agencies. He has audited and benchmarked Ghana's laws, policies, and institutional framework against global treaties and best practices.
Clement Akapame
Clement is a founding partner of TaylorCrabbe (https://taylorcrabbegh.com) and joined ClientEarth in 2013 as an In-Country Associate in Ghana. Clement has worked in commercial law, international finance, constitutional law, human rights, natural resources law with specialty in forest and wildlife legislation.
Caitlin Wale
Caitlin is the founder of a sub-Saharan African focused climate investment vehicle that brings more local talent into building critical innovations. She recently stepped away from her role as Principal at London-based dedicated carbon removal venture capital fund, to explore how her background in engineering, sustainability and investment could be applied in these regions and areas of carbon, biodiversity, mining and agriculture. She currently serves as the Chair of ClientEarth's NextGen Development Board gaining support of 1 million youths to become future climate leaders.
The guests shared their experience working in environmental law and spotlighted a case in Ghana about mining in Atewa Forest sharing their lessons and learnings and the importance of engaging and building capacity of communities at grassroots on matters, law that helps them build their activism and campaigns. Caitlin shared with the audience a project called Next Generation Climate Leaders Project by Client Earth. With the upcoming Africa Climate Summit, critical minerals are one of the key thematic areas because the conversation at the moment on Just Energy Transition is looking to Africa as the source of raw materials that will help us transition to a low carbon economy looking at the transport and energy sector. They share their thoughts being that Africa has always been disadvantaged with regards to exploration of minerals leaving communities in deplorable conditions because of the unsustainable mining
