It was God’s purpose for the temple that it would be a house of prayer to ALL NATIONS. But Israel’s selfishness ridded it of its divine purpose and the nations were shut out. Angry at what he saw, Jesus drove out those who exploited the purpose of the temple and kept the nations from entering. Today, the nations still do not know Jesus and it is our responsibility, as God’s new temple, to carry the gospel into “all the world.” Sadly, however, we go about our business and forsake the holiness of God‘s presence and never become the people he has called us to be.
