Episode Synopsis

Today on the podcast we’re joined by Tim Bishop, former U.S. Congressman for New York’s 1st Congressional District. A lifelong Long Islander who grew up in Southampton, Tim comes from a family deeply rooted in the East End’s history and community life. Before entering politics, he spent nearly three decades at Southampton College, where he served as Provost and worked to strengthen the college’s academic and cultural presence through programs like All for the Sea. In 2002, he made the leap from academia to Congress, serving six terms and championing issues central to the district, education, infrastructure, environmental protection, and local heritage, including federal recognition for the Shinnecock Nation. In this conversation, we talk about his early influences, his years in higher education, his experiences in Washington, and his enduring commitment to the East End and its people.
